Court Clerk and Administrative Assistant

Description:
Provide clerical support to the Municipal court, including receiving, indexing and recording court case information and/or legal documents, entering and updating data into databases, providing copies of official court and/or legal documents to the public, courts, litigants, attorneys and other appropriate parties. This classification also provides front office support.
Processes various court-related documentation; assists in preparing, receiving and processing subpoenas, court judgements, hearings, continuances, bench warrants and dockets; enters information pertaining to the same into computer database; reviews, verifies, records and file required information.
Performs general clerical tasks, which may include answering telephone calls, processing business licenses payments, typing documents, making copies, sending/receiving faxes, filing or processing incoming/outgoing mail. Other duties as required. Maintains confidentiality of departmental documentation and issues. Provides assistance to other employees or departments as needed. Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree plus additional coursework in business administration, office administration, or related field, data processing or office administration; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Must be proficient in the use of various office equipment including a computer, printer, scanner, fax machine, calculator, copier, etc. Uses computer software programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PDF editor, financial software and licensing software, etc.

Municipal Judge
Deadline to Apply: October 01, 2024, 4:00PM
Description:
Presides over bench trials, jury trials and rules on motions in court. The Town of Hampton holds Municipal Court two times per month, in the evening; all other court session proceedings to be determined on an "as needed" basis. Determines probable cause and issues arrest, search or bench warrants. Listens to presentation of case, rules on admissibility of evidence and methods of conducting testimony and settles disputes between opposing attorneys or parties.
Instructs jury on applicable laws and directs jury to deduce facts from evidence presented. Works closely with the Solicitors Office and surrounding Police Departments. Sentences defendant in criminal or traffic cases; defendants convicted by jury or bench trial, according to statutes of state or municipal government. Prepares and maintains court dockets, recording case dispositions and scheduling payment. Enters and retrieves computer data; generates computer reports as required.
Prepares and presents documents and reports such as bond/fine reports, court reports, levy forms, issuance of warrants, summons, orders, subpoenas/commitments/NRVCs, Rules to Show Cause Orders, purchase orders, memos, correspondence, etc. Availability for mandatory office hours. Attends training sessions, meetings, workshops, etc., as required to maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills; keeps abreast of changing legislation that affects functions of this position.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, sociology, or related field preferred. Previous law enforcement and/or court experience is desirable, and any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of state, federal, local laws, legal language and legal procedures related to municipal court functions.
Knowledge of courtroom procedures and ability to maintain order in the courtroom. Extensive knowledge of criminal, traffic and infraction procedures. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, research, presentation, written, and oral communication skills. Ability and willingness to work collaboratively with other staff and the public. Ability to think critically and apply knowledge of government court operation principles and customer service. Organized and detail-oriented with strong level of accuracy and the ability to multi-task.
Ability to prioritize and adhere to strict deadlines. High level of integrity; ability to handle confidential information. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and Outlook required. Use computers for data entry, word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, or custom applications. Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening test. Must possess a valid state driver’s license.

POLICE OFFICER
Salary: Will be based on experience and qualification(s). Starting annual salary is $49,192.

Special Requirements
Needs to be able to complete the 12 week SC Criminal Justice Academy basic training or currently hold a certification.

IFSAC FIREFIGHTER 1 and medical first responder certification within first two years of service or currently possess.
